Make.com Basics / Tour Of How To Use It For List-Building
This lesson is designed to give you a quick “day in the life” overview of Make.com and its interface, helping you see what it’s like to use it.
It’s NOT a how-to. That will come later.
You’re not meant to understand how to do the stuff I’m doing in this video at this point.
I just wanted to show you a little of what the process looks like to help you get a sense of whether or not it seems like it’s “for you.”
Best Ways To Use Make Automations For List-Building
My favorite way?
AI list enrichment.
Given that ChatGPT can pretty reliably google things at this point, it often means that AMAZING data is but a ChatGPT search away.
It also means that automated personalization is available, as well as cheap ICP filtering at scale. The sky’s truly the limit.
In the video, I show an example of this from my “Course Creator ICP Filtering” ChatGPT prompt exploration I did with leads sourced from an SEO competitor tool.
What You’ll See in This Video
- Navigating the Dashboard:

- Overview of a Basic List-Building Scenario:
- Workflow Steps: Zach walks you through a basic example, like adding data from a Google Sheet to a CRM, to show how each part of an automation connects.
- Setting Up Triggers: You’ll learn what triggers are (like when you add a row to Google Sheets, or click a button) and how to select a trigger to start the automation.
- Action Steps: Zach highlights “steps” (modules) that move or modify data—like formatting a field or adding a new contact to your CRM.
- Data Flow Preview: See how Make.com lets you preview the data flowing through each step so you can check what’s happening as it moves through the automation.
- Triggering Workflows:
- Manual Trigger: Zach demonstrates how to run an automation manually by clicking “Run Once” for easy testing.
- Setting Up Auto-Triggers: You’ll see how triggers can be scheduled to run automatically, allowing list-building tasks to happen on a set schedule. (We don’t typically do this for list-building though)
- Adjusting Inputs:
- Changing Inputs: Zach walks you through how to change inputs in modules—like updating the Google Sheet URL or modifying other field values.
- Saving & Testing: See how easy it is to save an automation and test it with new inputs to make sure it works as expected.

- Finding Logs: Zach shows you where logs live and how to check them to track processed leads and identify any issues.
- Tips for List-Building Workflows:
- Using Loops: Zach will show you an example of looping through data, like iterating over each row in a Google Sheet—a common need for list-building automations.
- Testing in Small Batches: Learn why testing changes on a small number of leads first is useful to avoid issues when working with larger lists.
- Saving & Duplicating Scenarios:
- Saving Basics: Zach will show you how to save your scenario and make duplicates for testing new ideas or customizations without affecting your original setup.
- Duplicating Zach’s Templates: Don’t worry—Zach will also teach you how to duplicate his templates in a later lesson, making it easy to start with a ready-made setup.
